MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING OF NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN AREA LOCAL #2247
Date: Sunday, July 24, 2016
Place: Green Bay Labor Temple
President Kelly Heaney called the meeting to order at 1908 hours.
A quorum was declared with 11 members and 1 honorary member, Tony Vanderbloemen in attendance.
Kelly Heaney led the Pledge of Alliance and Dave Villwock read the invocation.
The following officers were present:
President: Kelly Heaney, Vice-president: Steve Paradise, Secretary/Treasurer: Bryce Thomas, Bay Breeze Editor: Mary Davis, Maintenance Craft Director: Dave Villwock, Recording Secretary: Jenny Starry. Dave Kroll and Tim Alberts were absent.
Minutes of the June 2016 NEWAL meeting were printed in the Bay Breeze. A motion to approve the June 2016 NEWAL meeting minutes as printed was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Cheryl Schoen. Vote was unanimous.
The Financial Reports for June 2016 was read by Bryce Thomas.
Executive Committee: The e-board discussed LMOU training, purchasing tickets for the Labor Day picnic, cancelling the August meeting and scheduling the September meeting. The e-board approved Jenny Starry as new recording secretary.
Labor/Management: No Report. There was no labor management meeting.
Scheme: No report.
Safety/Health: Kelly Heaney said floor mats were requested in the LCTS. This might not be possible because of the moving in and out of APC’s. Possibly in the lane where the pipes are.
Legislative: Steve Paradise gave a report on H.R. 5714. The bill addresses the pre-funding requirement of the PAEA, which has wreaked havoc on Postal Service’s finances, through Medicare Integration. The bill also contains a provision that would convert door delivery to curb-side delivery or cluster boxes. Steve also talked about the GOP Platform and Trumps speech.
Chief stewards for NEWAL Area Local receive no pay for all the hard work they do:
Be it resolved: the Constitution be changed Article 12 Section 2. Stewards
That reads-Stewards shall be appointed by the President and approved by the Executive Committee. The duties of the stewards will be to assist with grievances to the National Agreement.

If chief stewards attend 75% of monthly meetings with a quorum from the time appointed until the last month of the year, then their dues for time of service will be reimbursed.
A motion was made by Dave Villwock and seconded by Steve Paradise. Motion passed unanimously. This change to the constitution has to posted and voted on.
New Members: Karilee Hookana & Michaela Larsen
Lost Members: Kristi Gee, retired.
A motion was made by Bryce Thomas and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to send Kelly Heaney, Dave Villwock, Steve Paradise, Dave Kroll and an MVS rep to LMOU training in Appleton on Sept 8th and 9th, 2016 at The Paper Valley Inn. To include mileage, per diem, lost wages, parking and registration. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Dave Villwock to buy 25 $10 tickets to the Annual Family Labor Day Picnic. Proceeds from the picnic are donated to food pantries and homeless shelters in our area. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Steve Paradise and seconded by Dave Villwock to have NEWAL pay up to 24 hours per member of LMOU negotiating team lost time. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Steve Paradise to cancel the August meeting and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Deb Nehmer and seconded by Nick Ratajczyk to have the next NEWAL meeting on Wednesday September 7th at 11:30am at Buster’s. Motion passed unanimously.
Tony Vanderbloemen thanked the membership for his plaque he received for his 50 years of union activism.
A motion was made by Mary Davis and seconded by Cheryl Schoen to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed unanimously. NEWAL meeting adjourned.
The $10 door prize was won by Deb Nehmer.
